- Maya Jane Coles
The music we love, every Saturday
Spanning the realms of house, disco & techno
In the decade she has been on the scene, there is little Maya can say she hasn’t done. She cut her production teeth on hip-hop and trip-hop in her mid teens, before releasing her first house tracks in 2008 and 2008 on Alex Arnout’s Dogmatik label.
2010 saw Maya soar to new heights with her incredibly popular What They Say EP released on Real Tone. The eponymous track was played by DJs the world over and ranked no. 4 in Resident Advisor’s Top 100 chart of that year. She was recognised as one of the Best Newcomers by DJ Mag in 2010, and doors have been flying open for Maya ever since!
2011 saw her win a whopping 5 awards: Beatport’s 'Staff Pick: Artist Of The Year’, DJ Mag's ‘Producer of the Year’, Mixmag's ‘Best Breakthrough DJ’, FACT's 'Female Artist 2011', and ‘Best Newcomer’ at the Ibiza DJ Awards. She was also asked to do an Essential Mix for Radio 1 for which she was awarded awarded ‘Best Essential Mix’, and she ranked 9th in Resident Advisor’s DJ poll in 2011 and. Maya has featured on two Mixmag covers (May 2011 & September 2013).
Maya’s 2013-debut album Comfort was received exceedingly well and gained critical acclaim. Released on her own label I/AM/ME, the 12-track album featured the likes of Kim Ann Foxman, Karin Park, Tricky, and Miss Kittin. The album is a dark and ethereal take on the deeper end of house and a testament to Maya’s comprehensive perfectionism in her production – Maya was responsible for the album’s sleeve design as well.
Post-Comfort, Maya has produced Fabric’s 75th compilation album (April, 2014) and played just about every major club and festival in the world – Berghain & Panorama, Fabric, The Warehouse Project, Womb, Ushuaïa, DC-10, Space, Amnesia, BPM, Sónar, ADE – you name it, Maya has been there!
So it is with palpable excitement that we welcome Maya Jane Coles to XOYO’s basement to finish April in perfect fashion.
