The music we love, every Saturday, spanning the realms of house, disco & techno.

Kicking off XOYO Loves in May we have Kyle Hall, Dan Shake and Dan Kye taking to the booth.

Detroit’s own Kyle Hall will be heading the XOYO basement tonight. He has been DJing and producing music since before high school, and was mentored by some of Motor City’s most revered industry figureheads. Kyle’s first mentor was DJ Raybone Jones, a prominent force in Detroit’s illustrious music scene, and was also taken under the wing of the equally influential Rick Wilhite and Mike Huckaby. Throughout his career Kyle has gained praise from Detroit luminaries, with the likes of Omar-S and Theo Parrish calling him one of the most talented youngsters around, and he now heads his own hugely successful Wild Oats imprint which has seen releases from Measure 2 Measure, Byron The Aquarius, and Funkinevil, as well as a huge catalouge of Kyle’s own work.

Former Leeds student Dan Rose-Weir AKA Dan Shake is the only artist not from Detroit to be signed to Moodyman’s esteemed Mahogani Music label. Dan handed over a demo CD to Moodyman after watching Kenny Dixon Jr. and the 3 Chairs at Dimensions festival, and the rest is simply history. His production, he says, is influenced by Afrobeat (particularly citing hthe work of Tony Allen and Fela Kuti), of J Dilla’s soul sampling, and the dark, dense grooves of artist such as Flying Lotus and Motor City Drum Ensemble. Throwing this all into a blender along with Dan’s special magic ingredient, it’s no wonder Moodyman had to have him on his label, and we can’t wait to see what he brings to XOYO tonight.

New Zealand-born and based in London, Dan Kye is the solo electronic-dance-orientated project of Jordan Rakei. Rakei himslef has featured on tracks with distinguished artists such as REMI and Disclosure, and he has recently just released his first EP under this alter ego – Joy, Ease, Lightness – on Peckham’s Rhythm Section label at the end of 2016. The EP features soulful jazz-style chords and melodic house beats that match his live solo shows. Chilled and groove sounds that will undoubtedly have you on your feet all night.
