- The Black Madonna
It is an enormous pleasure to welcome The Black Madonna as our next thirteen week resident, presenting We Still Believe every Friday in April, May and June.
Supporting The Black Madonna this week is two of the UK’s best loved DJ/producers, Midland and Artwork.
With a name that harks back to his student residence on Midland Road in Leeds, Harry Agius is an act that needs little introduction. A tastemaker through and through drawing on infinite sources of inspiration, Agius swerves seamlessly and effortlessly between house, techno and disco in both his production and DJ sets. Last year saw Midland’s immense release ‘Final Credits’ on his own Regraded label. The quintessential set-finisher and unrivalled track of 2016, this Midland rework of a 1980 disco release relentlessly took the world’s dancefloors and DJ sets by storm. Expect more of the same when Midland takes to the booth in XOYO, that is, pure brilliance.
XOYO is glad to welcome a national treasure of the UKs underground music scene to the decks, Arthur Smith, or as he’s better known, Artwork. His musical roots lie in the 2-step garage sounds being produced in pre-millenium South London that he himself was a part of. Such musical roots have enabled Artwork to become pivotal (along with friends Benga and Skream) in the creation of the dubstep genre in the 00’s. However, dubstep is by no means the limit of Artwork’s abilities as a DJ and a producer. Today his DJ sets and music production reflect his deep love for all manner of dance genres and eras, with a selection that spans from acid to disco and everything in between.
