- Derrick May
- The Black Madonna
It is an enormous pleasure to welcome The Black Madonna as our next thirteen week resident, presenting We Still Believe every Friday in April, May and June.
The second week of June sees The Black Madonna joined by fellow Detroiter Derrick May and Leif.
Few DJs need as little an introduction as Derrick May. A true icon of the industry, May (along with Juan Atins and Kevin Saunderson) is a third of The Belleville Three. This name is a nod to the high school where they met and forged friendships through a shared love of the electronic sounds of Kraftwerk and Yellow Magic Orchestra. This holy trinity pioneered the techno sound in Detroit, May himself famously describing their sound as if “Kraftwerk and George Clinton were stuck in an elevator”. It is not so common that XOYO gets to welcome a living, breathing legend to the booth in XOYO, so it is with great pleasure that we welcome the one and only Mr. Derrick May to the basement tonight!
Joining May and The Black Madonna we have the futuristic producer and forward thinking DJ Leif. Resident of the world-renowned Freerotation Festival and key member, Leif has used the last ten years to redefine and review his own musical leanings, gaining a deep understanding of the essential elements of house and Techno. Leif has enjoyed successful contributions to the Idle Hands, Sudden Drop, and Fear Of Flying labels. Nowadays we see Leif as the boss of his own UntilMyHeartStops label, which he runs with his fellow Freerotation resident Joe Ellis.
